Windward (East) Oahu Beaches including
beach description and facilities
Some say the Windward side is home to the best beaches in Oahu. Tradewinds keep this coast cool 90 percent of the year. You’ll find lush beach areas with great easy surfing, swimming, and windsurfing. However, watch out for Portuguese Man of War that are blown in by the tradewinds, as well as Stinging limu, which is present from June to September on this side of the island. At any beach in Hawaii, obey warning signs, ask lifeguards about ocean conditions, keep your eye on the surf, and if you have any doubt, stay out!

Known for its soft white sand, clear water, and gentle waves. Afternoon

shade, not commonly found
on Oahu beaches. Fairly noisy due to being

close to the road. Watch for jellyfish warning signs, stay in
safe areas.

Lovely but narrow beach, popular with the locals. Safe swimming all year

round. However, dangerous
rip at the break in the reef at the south end

of the park.

One of Oahu’s nicest beaches. Several islands can be seen from this

beach. Great swimming and wind
surfing. Occasional high surf. Watch for

jellyfish and stinging limu (seaweed), particularly in June-
September.

Considered one of the best swimming beaches in the state. Extremely

scenic with clear water, clean
wide beach, palm trees and the twin islands

of Mokumanu and Mokulua off shore within kayaking

Goat Island, a bird sanctuary, is located just off shore. At low tide the

water is shallow enough to
wade out to it. Wear water sneakers to avoid

cutting your feet on coral. Please observe the birds from
afar and be

careful not to step on their nests!

Named after the pounding shore break providing short but spectacular

bodysurfing. West end calm
and safe for swimming. Dangerous

shorebreak, sudden drop off and strong rip currents at the
opposite end,

near the limestone cliffs. Particularly busy on weekends and after school,


weekday
mornings are the quietest.

Gently sloping, sandy beach. Located in the the 75-acre Waimanalo Bay

Recreation Area. Surf is
usually calm but monitor conditions closely.

Watch for stinging jellyfish. Heed all posted warnings.
